Syensqo and Axens have announced the launch of Argylium, a new company dedicated to developing and scaling-up commercial demonstration of advanced materials for solid-state batteries in Europe. This collaboration represents an important step toward strengthening Europe’s innovation and excellence in creating the next generation of batteries.
Solid-state batteries are considered one of the most promising solutions for the next generation of electric vehicles and energy storage systems. By replacing liquid electrolytes with solid materials, they offer greater safety, higher energy density, and the potential for faster charging.
Building on Syensqo’s successful operation of a solid-state battery pilot line in La Rochelle, and over a decade of technology development at its State-of-the-art Paris laboratory (Aubervilliers), Argylium will focus on accelerating the industrialization of next-generation Sulfide Solid Electrolyte materials to the next-generation All-Solid-State Batteries (ASSB).
The new company brings together Syensqo’s leadership in advanced materials with Axens Group’s proven expertise in process design, industrial scale-up and global operation of in-organic chemistry industrial plants, complemented by IFPEN’s renowned know-how in inorganic chemistry and expertise in oxide or sulfide divided materials at its Lyon research center.
Argylium will strengthen collaboration with leading European research institutions, automotive OEMs, advanced battery manufacturers and energy technology partners to drive innovation and market readiness, contributing to Europe’s ambition of building a sustainable and competitive solid-state battery industry.
